I was among those at school with Marla, at the Covent of the Child Jesus, and then at John Paul II Collegiate. I know that I am not alone in feeling sadness at this too-early passing, nor in recalling her fondly. She was a lovely person.

You fought a courageous battle. You were always positive when I asked you how you were feeling. There was never a time that you complained about your illness. Marla, you always had a smile and a laugh for me. Now you can finally be at peace. Your work is done on earth. To all of Marla’s family, my deepest sympathy. Your pain equals the unmeasurable love and care you gave her. Marla was truly lucky to have such a loving and caring family. Love and prayers to all of you. Love Zoria Broughton

At first I was shocked and saddened. Then I thought about Marla's courage and all the extra years she was blessed with and she in turn could bless others with. Years of her laughter, spirit and pure bravery will be wonderful memories to cherish.
Regardless, Marla's passing will hurt and my condolences go out to all the family.
For her children, you were blessed to have known your mom. Cherish everything about your mom.
I know in my fight I have often thought about Marla, her spirit and her spunk. It has helped me and others that I have explained Marla to.
