Louis Nickolas Deptuch of Battleford, SK, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and a kind and generous friend, left this world suddenly and unexpectedly on Friday, January 20, at the age of 80 years, at the Battleford Union Hospital with his wife by his side.

Louis was born on June 23, 1942, in Smuts, SK, to parents Julius & Helen Deptuch. In his early twenties, he worked in Saskatoon as an orderly at the University Hospital where he took pride in the care he gave to his patients. Not only did he find work in Saskatoon, but also found the love of his life, Jeannette Tysowski. Together they both graduated with Bachelor of Arts & Education degrees from the University of Saskatchewan. Louis and Jeannette settled in Battleford, SK. in 1974 where Louis taught Fine Arts and Social Studies at Battleford Junior High School for 20 years. Louis was very proud to be a teacher and a mentor, and he loved meeting his students years later to talk, reminisce, and to discover their successes.

Louis was an avid outdoorsman, fisherman and hunter and took pride in training his Labrador Retriever, Tzar, in the art of being a great hunting dog. Louis helped coach his daughter's badminton team at BJHS and his son’s early hockey years. He shared his many creative loves and talents through his children and was an avid fan and supporter for all the sports and activities in which his children participated. He loved to compete in Silhouette, air pistol, and archery competitions, winning many medals and awards over the years. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his grandchildren and their accomplishments.

He is lovingly remembered by his family; his wife of 58 years, Jeannette Deptuch; daughter, Bernadette Deptuch (Ray Courcelles); son, Ryan Deptuch (Christine Diekema) – granddaughter, Kate Deptuch and grandson, Jack Deptuch; sister, Rosemarie (Laust) Lauritsen; brother-in-law, Edward (Natalie) Tysowski; sister-in-law, Lillian Deptuch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents: Julius and Helen (nee Nowalkowski) Deptuch; brother, August Deptuch; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Frank and Lena (nee Hominiuk) Tysowski; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Sonya (nee Tysowski) and Mike Bodnarchuk.

A visitation for Louis will be held on Friday, January 27, 2023 from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. at The Garden Chapel - 1332 100 St. North Battleford, SK. Prayer Service (Panachyda) will be held on Friday January 27, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Janko Kolosnjaji officiating; both services will be held at the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral of St. George - 210 Avenue M South, Saskatoon, SK. Immediately after the service, all are welcome to the Cathedral auditorium to meet with family and enjoy lunch. Interment will take place at the Woodlawn Cemetery following lunch at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, those so inclined are encouraged to donate any amount to the Heart and Stroke Foundation - 1379 Kenaston Boulevard, Winnipeg, MB, R3P 2T5, Diabetes Canada - 919B Albert Street, Regina, SK, S4R 2P6 or a charity of their choosing. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Eternal Memories Funeral Service and Crematorium – Vanessa Macnab Funeral Director.

Never feeling his age, Louis lived 80 years and lived them well, and up to his final day he was still looking forward to years yet to come. Above all, Louis had a devout and private relationship with our Holy Father, who guided him throughout his life. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives and hearts he touched throughout his life. Vichnaya Pamyat…Memory Eternal.
