Marie Prebushewski Obituary

It is with deep and profound sadness that the family announces the loss of Marie (Marie-Ange) Prebushewski. Marie passed away suddenly at home on July 11, 2020.

Marie was love, energy and inspiration to her family and friends throughout her life. She was born in Saskatoon in the early 1940s, and grew up on the farm near Prud'homme, SK, in a large and boisterous family. She was always devoted to her extended family.

Marie and her husband Peter were married as the 1960s arrived. They had five boys over the years. In their early married years Marie and Peter lived in Prud'homme and farmed nearby. The family moved to Cudworth in the early 1970s where Marie began her teaching career and gained her Degree in Education through part time studies at the University of Saskatchewan. In 1979 the family moved to Hafford, SK, where they established a new family farm. Marie began teaching in Blaine Lake and taught there for many years until her retirement from public school teaching. While teaching she achieved her Master of Education in Administration and Adult Education, and served for many years on various professional boards and associations, including the executive of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation.

Marie embarked on a new career of community adult education and development upon retirement from public school teaching. She worked with her associates in small rural and First Nations communities across Saskatchewan, establishing accessible basic technology hubs and adult life skills programs. Marie's commitment to support community development also took her and husband Peter to Ukraine, where during several trips they worked with small communities in the transformation of collective farms to co-ops. Her drive to help others was seemingly endless.

The memory of Marie will be cherished by her devoted husband Peter of 59 years; their sons: Ray (Julie), Bernie (Elizabeth), Andrew (Darlene Forst), Dan, and Darren (Kim Trotchie) Prebushewski; along with her numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, and other family, friends and former colleagues.

Marie was predeceased by her parents: Anne-Marie and Louis Bandet. A funeral service was held on July 21, 2020, at the St. Solange Cemetery in Hafford, Saskatchewan. Arrangements by Eternal Memories Funeral Service of North Battleford.

Memorials can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 1738 Quebec Ave #26, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1V9.

Marie will be remembered for her love, compassion and dedication to her immediate and extended family, as well as her passion for teaching in school and beyond, and her lifelong commitment to aid the development and success of others. She was kind, loved to laugh, and lived an amazing life of noble pursuits. Marie's life is truly one to celebrate.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
