Orest Chrunik Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Orest Chrunik announce his passing on September 24, 2026 at the age of 80 years.

Orest, a proud Ukrainian, originally of Bankend, Saskatchewan, enjoyed working in the family-owned service station. This was the beginning of Orest wanting to know everyone’s story and life history.

After working several adventurous jobs across the country, he became a server at Jasper Park Lodge, where he met Wendy, his devoted wife of nearly 52 years. Orest’s career was later spent at the Credit Union in North Battleford, where he helped people in the community build their businesses.

Orest was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, a member of the Kinsmen and K-40 clubs, financial officer of the North Stars Hockey Association, on the finance committee of St. Joseph’s Calasanctius Church, to name a few. He volunteered for any activities Michael and Elecia were involved in, whether it be manager of hockey teams or working bingos for dance.

Orest loved golfing, playing hockey, fishing at Turtle Lake and many trips up north, always trying to catch the big one, skiing, and travelling (running into someone he knew or was related to everywhere in the world).

He was known for his sense of humour, generous and kind heart, and his love for family and friends that never wavered.

We will all miss him dearly.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Wendy Chrunik; children: Michael Chrunik, Elecia Chrunik; sisters: Judy Zemlak, Joan Kraft, Christine Campbell; brothers-in-law: Michael Evans-Smith, Paul Evans-Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Orest was predeceased by his parents: Michael and Kay Chrunik; brothers-in-law: Armand Kraft, Lorin Campbell; nephew, Kim Zemlak.

A Funeral Service will take place on Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. held at St. Joseph Calasanctius Roman Catholic Church - 1942 - 98th Street, North Battleford.

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Alzheimer Society ~ 301-2550 12th Ave, Regina, Saskatchewan, S4P 3X4.
