Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Stanford John Chomey announce his passing. Stan was born April 9, 1947 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to John and Helen Chomey. He passed away at Royal University Hospital on May 4, 2022 at the age of 75, after being diagnosed with cancer in spring 2021.

Stan graduated from high school in Mayfair, SK, he attended teacher’s college in Saskatoon for 1 year and began his teaching career at age 19. He taught in North Battleford, Marsden and completed his teaching career in Ile-a-la Crosse as an administrator at Rossignol School in 1998. It was at Rossignol School where he met his wife, Kathy. They were married in 1987 and spent 34 years happily married. They welcomed their first daughter, Ellen, in 1989, and their second daughter, Stacey, in 1992.

After spending 20 years in Ile-a-la Crosse, Stan retired and the family moved back to the farm in the Hatherleigh area, where he enjoyed farming and working with his cows (where most became pets), chickens, dogs, and cats. Although a quiet man, he enjoyed helping his neighbours and friends - many of whom became like family – with various tasks.

He preferred a quiet lifestyle but enjoyed travelling and seeing sites across Canada, having visited every province in Canada, and a few states. Stan was a lover of history, so many vacations involved visits to historical sites.

Stan valued his family greatly, always putting them first. He spent his retired years attending every game, recital, and play his daughters were part of. He was very proud of his daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren. He is already so profoundly missed by his family, who promise to keep his memory alive through his children and grandchildren.

Stan leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Kathy; daughter, Ellen Lague (Geremy) of Regina- granddaughter, Rory; daughter, Stacey Goudie (Jordan) of Regina- granddaughter, Lydia; mother-in-law, Joan Fitch; sister-in-law, Lorene Chomey; brother-in-law, Doug Fitch (Shelley), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Stan was predeceased by his father, John (1989) and his mother, Helen (2009) Chomey; his father-in-law, Glenn Fitch (2007) and his brother, Morris Chomey (2015).

A Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, 2022 at City Cemetery, North Battleford, SK with Father Janko Kolosnjaji as Celebrant.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan, 200-4545 Parliament Ave, Regina, SK S4W 0G3 or to the Whitkow Church Restoration Fund - please make cheques payable to Audrey Mushtaler, 5710 34th St. Lloydminster, AB T9V 1X2.  Condolences for the family may be left at www.eternalmemoriesfuneral.ca.
