Walter Misan

1922 ~ 2025 (age 102) 102 Years Old

Walter Misan Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Walter Misan.  He was an affectionately known as Gedo to those who loved him.  Walter passed away on March 6, 2025 peacefully at River Heights Lodge.

Walter was 102 years old.  Born in Lublin Poland in 1922.  He immigrated to Canada at the age of 5 on June 3, 1928.  Arriving at Quebec City Port with his brother Peter who was 2 accompanied by their Mother Antonia on the vessel Laurentic II.

The family travelled west settling in Richard Saskatchewan where they joined Sr. Peter Misan, making their homestead.  Farming became their way of life.  A third son was born, Frank.

Walter married Helen Kozial from Peesane Saskatchewan on Nov. 4, 1952.  They settled at Ruddell Saskatchewan raising two children, John and Dianne.

Walter was Mr. Fix it Man! Always tinkering!  Both Walter and Helen drove school bus for the community for many years.  Walter loved to dance.  Attending many Old-Time dances in the area.  He also loved playing Kazier.  He was a whiz at it!  Loved playing, Loved winning!

The family moved to the Battlefords in 1972 where Walter dappled in building and selling steel buildings, building houses, janitorial work, and managing rental properties over the years.

When Walter wasn’t working, he spent his time gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, berry picking or remodelling his motorhome.

Walter never said no to Sweets! He loved ice cream especially Maple Walnut.  It appears to be a family favorite.

He lived in his own home till 2015.  He settled into River Height Lodge where he battled dementia/ Alzheimer’s until his passing.

Left to cherish his memories: Brother, Frank Misan;

Son, John (Debbie) Misan; grandson: Lindsay Misan; granddaughter: Crystal (Dustin) Coffey; great-grandson: Jace; Great-granddaughter: Hayden

Daughter: Dianne (Zane) Lacoursiere; grandson: Makstr (Katie) Lacoursiere; great-grandson: Wyatt; great-granddaughter: Violet

Granddaughter: Malina (Brandon) Combres; great-granddaughter: Brinley; Greatgrandson: Beckett

Together: Walter and Helen will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date.
